China's health authorities have confirmed 2,641 new cases and 143 other deaths on Friday, of which 139 were in Hubei province, where Wuhan is located, two in Henan, one in Beijing and one in Chongqing.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Health, 2,277 new suspicious cases have been registered and 849 patients were in serious condition, while 1,373 people were discharged from the hospital after recovering from the virus.

In total, 11,053 people remain in serious condition and 8,969 people are suspected of being infected by the coronavirus. So far, 8,096 people have been discharged from different hospitals in China after recovering from the infection.

In addition, health authorities have reported that 513,183 people who had close contact with people affected by the virus have been recognized. Of these, 169,039 are still under medical observation.

China has also taken stock of its administrative regions with special status and has confirmed 56 cases of coronavirus infection, including one death, in Hong Kong, ten in Macao and 18 in Taiwan.

Although the epicenter of the coronavirus is in Wuhan and most cases are registered in China, cases have been detected in other countries in Southeast Asia, Europe and America. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the international health emergency at the end of January and has asked the international community to redouble its efforts.

Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough and shortness of breath. In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.

The data of deaths due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus exceed those recorded due to the outbreak of SARS or acute respiratory syndrome that was first detected in 2002. In 2003, more than 600 people had died in China because of this virus, while the global figure reached 765 deceased.
