The coronavirus pandemic, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has already claimed more than 868,000 deaths among the more than 26.3 million infected worldwide. This emerges from the balance sheet that Johns Hopkins University offered on Friday in 188 affected countries and territories.
A total of 26,310,505 people were infected with the virus – about 281,000 more on the last day – more than half of them in the three most affected countries – the USA, Brazil and India – that there are already 868,810 dead.
In terms of recovery, more than 17.52 million people have already managed to overcome COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus. Brazil tops the list with just over 3.42 million patients cured, followed by India with more than 3.03 million and the United States with just over 2.26 million.
The United States remains the most pandemic-hit country in the world, with 6.15 million people infected and 186,797 deaths, after adding more than 44,000 new cases since the last balance.
