The number of people infected with the new corona virus worldwide exceeded the 16 million mark on Sunday. To date, nearly 645,000 people have been killed due to COVID-19’s website.
The United States remains the most affected country with nearly 4.2 million cases and 146,460 deaths. There has been a sharp increase in infections in recent weeks, which has triggered criticism of how to fight the pandemic.
Behind it is Brazil, which has confirmed around 2.4 million infections and 86,449 deaths to date, although it is the country that has confirmed the most recovered so far with 1,785,359.
In terms of the number of cases, India is in third place with almost 1.4 million, followed by Russia with 805,332; and South Africa with 434,200 – more than half of the infections on the African continent. Mexico, Peru, Chile and the United Kingdom have so far exceeded the 300,000 infection threshold.
