The Supreme Court of Colombia (CSJ) has officially notified Congress of the house arrest order issued against former President of the country Álvaro Uribe for alleged crimes of bribery of witnesses and procedural fraud to suspend him from the position of senator.

The President of the Special Education Chamber, Héctor Javier Alarcón, has sent a letter to the President of the Senate, Arturo Char, in which he informs the new “legal situation” of Uribe.

“Senator Álvaro Uribe Vélez will carry out the imprisonment in the place he has indicated for this purpose, ie in the city of Monteria, El Sabana district, owned by ‘El Ubérrimo’,” he said.

Alarcón also told Char that “this notice is being made public so that it can, within its authority, print the appropriate procedure,” which consists of suspending Uribe and declaring his seat in the House of Lords vacant despite being occupied by another member would his political party, Centro Democrático, according to RCN Radio.
