August 29, 2020

The Special Justice for Peace in Colombia (JEP) has announced that it will accept former Senator Julio Manzur for the crime of conspiracy to commit an aggravated crime against the country’s paramilitary groups.

Manzur attended meetings chaired by the heads of the paramilitaries of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), Salvatore Mancuso and Carlos Castaño, and made political agreements with members of paramilitary groups on their political claims.

After his admission to the Special Justice of Peace, specific adjustments were required for the reconstruction of events related to the armed conflict in the department of Cordoba for the period 1996-2006, as well as for reparation programs such as training programs and technical conferences, and obligation to go before the Truth Commission.
