The Colombian prosecutor’s office refuses to release former President Álvaro Uribe

The Colombian Attorney General’s Office this Friday rejected the request for freedom presented by the defense of the country’s former president, Álvaro Uribe, which must remain under house arrest.

Prosecutor Gabriel Jaimes Durán has ruled that the Uribe case must be continued “solely under Law 906 of 2004” when referring to events between 2017 and 2018, thereby denying the defense’s motion.

According to the prosecutor, requests for release of this type can only be made in preliminary hearings before a judge.

“The complexity of the investigation and the costly documentation of the files mean that a case study will be carried out in the coming days to define a method of transit between the two procedural systems,” the prosecutor stated in a statement.
