The Colombian government recognizes that it will take a year for a “high vaccination rate” to be achieved.

Colombian Health Minister Fernando Ruiz admitted this Wednesday that it will take a year for a “high vaccination rate” to be achieved in the country, and has reported that priority will be given to the high-risk and economically active populations, meaning six out of ten People.

Hours earlier, during a dialogue for radio station Caracol, the Minister of Health announced that around 14 million Colombians would benefit from these first doses, which are specifically intended for the adult population over 70, people with previous illnesses and workers in the US health sector.

During a scrutiny session at the Colombian Congress of Representatives, Ruiz said that the government is working to purchase a vaccine and that they have already made “confidentiality agreements” and “discussions with various industries”.

Regarding vaccination times, Ruiz stated that the first round will be in six months, but it will be all of 2012 before a “high vaccination rate” is reached.
