The Colombian government recognizes “concern” about the epidemiological situation in Cali, Bogotá and Medellín

Colombian Health Minister Fernando Ruiz on Monday expressed “concern” about the epidemiological situation of the country’s three most populous cities, Bogotá, Cali and Medellín, as the occupation of hospital beds in the intensive care unit is above 90 percent in some cases.

Ruiz recognized that “it is a worrying situation” even though they were already expecting it, he said, because “with a pandemic of these characteristics it was inevitable”.

“The good news is that thanks to the measures taken in each of these cities, this peak is taking on a certain form of plateau,” said the Minister of Health in an interview for the Colombian newspaper ‘El Espectador’.

Ruiz has also said the government is facing a complicated situation regarding the reopening of schools because, without “underestimating the psychological damage” academic delays can cause, “a generation of orphans would be a disaster too” .
