June 11, 2020

The Colombian army has announced that, after a year of counterintelligence, it has arrested a Venezuelan national, a member of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), who has identified this after arriving as a suspected refugee and carried out “military unit espionage activities”.

The Colombian authorities have issued a statement stating how this alleged spy was arrested at a checkpoint on the road connecting the Caesarian section city of Valledupar to La Guajira, a region bordering Colombia.

“At the time of his arrest, this person later had documents that he later confirmed as an active military officer in the rank of second sergeant, identified as Gerardo José Rojas Castillo, from the city of Carora, state of Lara, Venezuela,” he said.

Rojas Castillo, it goes on to say, “pretended to own a juice stand in front of the military facility, and later succeeded as a security guard in a transport company in Valledupar, where he was able to constantly monitor the movements from the military canton of the Tenth Panzer Brigade.”
