The international coalition against the jihadist group Islamic State has announced on Thursday a “pause” of its military operations in Iraq, in the face of rising tensions over the death of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in a US bombing.

The coalition has indicated in a series of messages in its official account on the social network Twitter that the measure aims to “focus on protecting the Iraqi bases that host the coalition staff.”

“The activities that have been paused include training with partners and supporting their operations against the Islamic State,” he said, before stressing that he believes that “it is in favor of shared interests … continue the fight against Islamic State”.
