A citizen of Singapore pleaded guilty to acting under the direction of Chinese intelligence officials on Friday to obtain confidential information from US officials, the US Department of Justice said.
Yeo Jun Wei, also known as Dickson Yeo, pleaded guilty to a federal court in Washington DC. on charges of acting as an “illegal foreign agent” within the United States.
Court documents collected by The Straits Times indicate that the defendant used his United States political advice as a front to gather information for Chinese intelligence agencies during an operation against U.S. military personnel. and government employees with security checks at locations of professional social networks.
Yeo paid her to write reports that he said were intended for customers in Asia, but were actually sent to the Chinese government without his knowledge.
