The Chilean judiciary has sent two former Carabineros generals to preventive detention for embezzlement

This Friday, the Chilean judiciary ordered preventive detention for two retired police generals, Gustavo González Jure and Bruno Villalobos Krum, who are involved in a corruption case in which they are being investigated for embezzlement of public funds and forgery of public documents.

The Seventh Guarantee Court of Santiago issued the measure after the North Central Public Prosecutor’s Office ensured that González Jure 1,181 million Chilean pesos (about 128,800 euros) went directly to her personal account between 2011 and 2015.

In the case of Bruno Villalobos, he would have appropriated 606 million (635,000 euros) between 2015 and 2018, and 67 million (70,000 euros) he would have provided for personal benefit, reports the local radio station Radio Bío Bío.

Former Carabineros Undersecretary and Justice Minister Javiera Blanco and four other people are also involved in this case, who are alleged to have received more than 42 million Chilean pesos (almost 44,000 euros). According to the public prosecutor’s office, all those involved received the premiums in envelopes on a monthly basis.
