The Cape Verde judiciary approves extradition of the alleged figure of Maduro to the United States

The Barlovento Court of Appeal approved extradition of Colombian Venezuelan businessman Álex Saab, allegedly the figurehead of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, to the United States, his defense reported on Tuesday.

Saab’s defense, composed of former Spanish judge Baltasar Garzón, said in a statement that the decision was adopted on July 31, but was not communicated until August 3, four days later.

In this regard, he recalled that “Saab was waiting in front of the Windward Court for the legally required hearing date to exercise his right to an equitable defense,” which is why his lawyers have considered this court ruling violates your rights.

“The Windward Court ignored Special Representative Saab’s right to an effective remedy and wrongly justified his neglect of the defense opposition document by stating that the law only allowed him to review the extradition request for limited reasons,” they denounced.
