The Burkina Faso army culminates the coup with the sacking of Kaboré

Burkina Faso’s armed forces on Monday announced the dismissal of the country’s President Christian Kaboré and his replacement by Lt. Col. Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba.

The announcement includes the suspension of the constitution, the dissolution of the Burkina Faso government and national assembly, and the closure of the borders.

The text emphasizes that the seizure of power was carried out without violence and that the detainees are in safe places, and announces that a schedule “acceptable to all” for holding elections is already being prepared.
