Paul Wilders, brother of Dutch right-wing extremist Freedom Party (PVV) leader Geert Wilders, has reminded him on social media that after the umpteenth tirade against Wilders’ immigration on Twitter, they have ancestors of immigrants.
The PVV chairman posted a message on June 18, criticizing that since 2014 immigrants in the Netherlands have been allocated 87,000 affordable rental apartments “while the Dutch have to wait”.
In response, Paul Wilders recalled the diversity of his family’s origins. “Immigrants? The Wilders family name comes from Germany. A grandmother has roots in Indonesia. Her partner came from Hungary (Turkish roots). We are all immigrants. Period,” he revealed.
Paul and Geert have been keeping a distance since 2016, and Paul has repeatedly shown his support for immigration and the right to asylum for refugees arriving in the country. Geert Wilders’ wife is Krisztina Marfai, a diplomat for Hungary.
