The Brazilian Senate approved the postponement of this year’s local elections due to COVID-19

The Brazilian Senate voted 64 votes in favor and seven against in the second round of the constitutional amendment this Tuesday to postpone local elections due to the COVID-19 pandemic from October to November this year.

The text, which now needs to be analyzed in the Congress of Deputies, proposes to postpone the first round of local elections from October 4 to November 15, while the second round is to run from October 25 to November 29.

Not only the dates of the elections have changed in this change, but also the conditions of incompatibility, the registration of candidacies, the accounting and the electoral laws.

In the event that it receives Congress approval, it will be issued by the same chamber without the signature of the head of state Jair Bolsonaro.
