Brazilian Attorney General Augusto Aras requested Monday for an investigation into the attacks that several journalists from supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro suffered against Congress and the Supreme Court in Brasilia on Sunday.
According to the Brazilian newspaper “Estadao”, several of his experts were beaten during the act in the Plaza de los Tres Poderes, where Bolsonaro again attacked isolation measures as the best alternative to the pandemic. the day that Brazil exceeded 100,000 infections and 7,000 deaths.
“These events are very serious because we see press freedom as a constitutional right and a fundamental element of the rule of law,” said Aras in a letter addressed to the Attorney General, asking for the intervention of his owner, Fabiana Costa Oliveira.
In addition to “Estadao” journalists, reporters from other media such as “Folha de Sao Paulo” also denounced the harassment and verbal attacks their workers were exposed to, something that Bolsonaro questioned when asked about it himself to confirm that these episodes, if they had occurred, would have been from “possible infiltrators”.
