The Brazilian prosecutor asks to archive the case that Bolsonaro was stabbed to in 2018 because he acted alone

June 5, 2020

The Brazilian prosecutor asked Thursday to temporarily archive the second investigation into President Jair Bolsonaro’s stab in 2018 when he was a candidate because the person responsible for the attack, Adélio Bispo de Oliveira, acted alone.

In a statement, the Attorney General’s Office said that De Oliveira was “solely responsible, both on her own initiative and without the help of third parties, for both planning and executing the crime,” regarding his attack on the Juiz de Fora community Southern Brazil.

In this sense, De Oliveira was already in Juiz de Fora when the electoral law was planned, so he did not travel to the city to commit the crime. In return, he was not related to anyone in the community in connection with the attack, nor was financial income in his bank account incompatible with his work.

The prosecutor also said the petition is preliminary, as it is still a federal court trial.

On September 6, 2018, then deputy Jair Bolsonaro was stabbed in the stomach when he was at an election rally for his presidential campaign in the municipality of Juiz de Fora in the southern state of Minas Gerais.
