Brazilian Justice and Public Security Minister, former judge Sergio Moro, resigned this Friday after accusing President Jair Bolsonaro of a “related person” for his “political interference” in the federal police (PF) that the President is about to appoint .
Hours after the publication of the PF Director Maurício Valeixo’s dismissal, Moro has publicly confirmed his rejection of this decision, which, according to various media, he personally transferred to Bolsonaro during a private meeting on Thursday, advanced his resignation.
The former judge said earlier this Friday that he told Bolsonaro at this meeting that he had “no problem” changing police directors as long as there was a valid reason, for example, “a serious mistake” by Valeixo G1.
“The president told me that he wanted to use a relative who could share information and intelligence reports. The role of the PF is not to provide this type of information,” warned Moro. According to the outgoing minister, Bolsonaro himself admitted that he interfered.
