The Brazilian federal district declares the “state of disaster” due to the corona virus

June 29, 2020

The Brazilian federal district (DF) declared this Monday “misfortune” due to the coronavirus pandemic, which is far from causing nearly 45,000 cases and around 550 deaths in the capital region.

“The state of public disaster in the federal district is being explained due to the coronavirus pandemic,” says Governor Ibaneis Rocha’s order, which is collected by the G1 news portal.

Rocha declared a state of emergency last February for 180 days, but the measure was practically confined to the health sector, while the “disaster condition” permits measures in other sectors.

The regional leader has told G1 that the purpose of this statement is to “access federal programs” and decouple it from the coronavirus advance in the DF with 44,900 positive results, including 548 deaths.
