The Bolivian public prosecutor is launching an investigation into an armed group that has arrested journalists and police officers

Bolivia Attorney General Juan Lanchipa announced on Friday that a preliminary investigation into seven crimes had been launched against the armed group that arrested journalists and police officers, among others, in a dispute over land in the Guarayos department of Santa Cruz on Thursday.

The criminal investigation was initiated in particular because of the alleged commission of the crimes of attempted homicide, serious and very serious injuries, illegal possession of weapons, serious robbery, qualified damage to property, kidnapping and imprisonment, according to the public prosecutor’s office according to Bolivian media ‘La Razón’.

The Bolivian government minister Eduardo del Castillo previously stated that the executive branch must take legal action against the perpetrators of these events “in order to find out the material truth of what happened”.

On Thursday, journalists from various Bolivian media outlets, police officers and others were detained for at least seven hours in a location called Las Londras in Guarayos after they were caught shooting by the group.

According to the Bolivian authorities, at least one police officer was injured at the event, for whom he was hospitalized in stable condition.
