The bodies of two people buried in a landslide in western Japan were saved

Emergency services have recovered the bodies of a man and a woman buried in a landslide caused by heavy rains in Hiroshima Prefecture in western Japan, and have caused the authorities to order evacuation of more than 10,000 people, the news agency Kiodo reported.

Rescue workers received a notification at around 6:00 a.m. after a landslide on a hill near a house in Higashihiroshima City was registered and later found the bodies of the two people who had disappeared after the collapse. A 55-year-old man named Shigemi Kurakane and his 88-year-old mother named Chiyoko.

“We hoped the rain would intensify, but I regret that we could not have foreseen the disaster and issued no warnings,” said Hiroshima Prefecture governor Hidehiko Yuzaki in press releases.
