Hourly data from Google Trends shows that the search for “Bitcoin” in the United States reached a steady high point at 1 a.m. EST last week. This hourly data is only available seven days in advance, so we do not know whether it is an established pattern or a new development.

Of the 50 states California is the happiest seeker at this point, possibly because 1 a.m. EST is only 10 p.m. local time on the west coast. There is still adequate sailing time at night.

It is also not surprising that the greatest interest in Bitcoin searches in the past 30 days has coincided with this week’s notorious Twitter hack. In similar circumstances, as Satoshi Nakamoto once emphasized, “it would have been good to get this attention in a different context.”
