Leadership is an art, it requires a complex set of skills that need to be defined over the years. Consider the following eight key characteristics to be a leader:

1. Focus. An estimated 20 percent of the time is wasted on other things. If you didn’t do time-consuming things like social media, daydreaming, or even clapping, you would be 20 percent more productive than your team.

2. Be a great partner. You can’t be a great leader unless you’re a good partner first. Baseball legend Mickey Mantle said, “When I die, I want him to say in my grave: a great teammate.” If you are always there for your friends, they will respect you. It is a requirement for every leader.

3. Look for challenges. Are there special projects where your boss wants to work voluntarily? Taking initiative to take on a challenge outside of your job shows initiative. It is also an opportunity to prove that you can do more.

4. Seek improvement. Are you going to an annual performance review just waiting to be heard from your boss? Or ask questions that are looking for success, e.g. B. In what areas can I improve to increase my value? What should I focus on now? Are there any other options for me? Ask successful people who know which books they recommend. In addition to material that you can refer to when you encounter certain obstacles at work, you can refer to a recently read book or article that you have read to start a conversation.

5. Try to be a great communicator. To be a great leader, you need to be able to share your points and ideas with the team. Assess all aspects of communication, including clarity, language, tone, and delivery. Scan your inbox. Reread the emails you sent today. Did you communicate well? Be sure to ask someone to read some and criticize you. Record yourself by giving your employees a message and listen to them to rate them yourself. To be a leader, you have to communicate as one.

6. Run your own race. Don’t worry about what your competition is doing. Just like a marathon, some people start quickly and get tired or start slowly and then accelerate. Focus on what you are doing and you don’t have to worry about overestimating or underestimating your colleagues. In addition, great teams support each other because they know that your company can grow.

7. Work hard. Sorry, there are no links to grow. If you consider the first point, you don’t have to work 60 hours a week to get a promotion. But you should always be prepared if they ask you about other planned and unexpected things. If you work hard and shine when the pressure is at its highest, you will really stand out.

8. Prepare for an opportunity. There is a story in which Warren Buffet entered a full elevator and found that a coin was on the floor. Everyone saw it, but no one bothered to lift it, except Buffet, who said, “The beginning of my next billion.” It’s a great story. What I love about her is that she saw an opportunity that no one else could. Find this shiny coin at your work place and take it.
