I have worked for over 14 years teaching people to bring their ideas to the market. In my experience I have identified which are the most common routes that triumph takes. In essence, reaching the top is based on the ability to dissect a problem for an efficient solution.

These are the three steps that for me are more on the paths to success.

1. Understand what the rules of the game are
To become an expert on a subject you first have to study it. How does your sector or industry work ? Who are the important characters? What happened before Why do people fail? What is considered innovative ?

You are on a mission to collect information. Search everywhere for industry data that interests you. The best advice comes from people who have already done what you are trying to achieve. They can help you understand the state of the market and what it takes to innovate.

Many people skip this step. They begin to experiment with new projects without understanding the true needs of their audience. You may think you know what it takes to launch a business, but you won't really be ready until you know your industry perfectly. There are no more excuses for not preparing! The internet has greatly facilitated this point. You may find that the market you are interested in is not as big as you expected or that it is moving in a new direction. You need to know how much you can.

It is normal to be naive when you start. In fact, sometimes having a fresh perspective can be beneficial. But if you don't take the time to understand what are the challenges you may face at the beginning of your business, you will not be ready for the big obstacles that will come in the future.

2. Find the opportunity
When you start a business, you should try to identify the gaps in the market. Is there a problem that needs solution? Where is there room for improvement? What is missing in the sector?

Then ask yourself if you are able to solve these questions with your idea. Is there an opportunity for your product or service to not only enter the market, but also stand out?

You may decide at this point that you need more information before launching. You may need to take a class or find a mentor. It is not enough to want to be successful and commit to working hard to achieve it. You must work intelligently.

3. Make an action plan
You already have all the critical information you need to succeed. Now what do you have to do to do it? Answer: have an action plan. Map how you are going to get from point A (where you are) to point B. Your strategy can change over time, but you need to have at least a general idea of ​​what you want to do or you will lose the compass.

The best way to achieve success is to understand what it takes to succeed, identify opportunities in your market, and finally, form a strategy based on what you have learned and the strengths you have. You don't have to reinvent the wheel, but you do have to find what makes you unique.
