The Indian authorities arrested ten police officers on Thursday, accused of protecting a prominent politician, after he and two of his family members were killed in an attack in the Kashmir region late Wednesday.
Uasim Bari, a senior official of the Indian People’s Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir, was shot next to his home in the Bandipore district alongside his father and brother, also members of this formation.
Bari and her relatives were killed when they went shopping in a shop on the ground floor of the building where they lived. The officials responsible for their security were not with them at the time, so they were arrested.
“We are strongly opposed to them because they have been fired and lives have not been protected,” said Indian police inspector Vijay Kumar of Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian television broadcaster NDTV reported.
