At least ten people were killed in an attack carried out by suspected members of the Boko Haram jihadist group against the Chadian city of Tinana in the Lake Chad basin late Thursday. Security sources confirmed this on Friday.
These sources, cited by the news portal Tchad Infos, indicate that the attackers surrounded Tinana in the Kaya department of Lago province before they launched the attack that kidnapped two people.
According to these sources, the armed men looted the city during the attack. They have assured that the Chadian security forces have launched an operation in the area to try and conquer them.
The province of Lago and especially the areas near Lake Chad were the scene of years of attacks by Boko Haram and his spin-off Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA).
The Chad army conducted a major security operation in late March after a jihadist attack that killed nearly a hundred military personnel to drive terrorists out of the area and the islands in the lake.
