Ten children killed by lightning while playing football in Uganda
A dozen children have died after being struck by lightning while trying to protect themselves from a storm that caught them by surprise at a football game in northern Uganda on Thursday, police reported Friday.
The victims, aged between 11 and 16, had sought refuge in a makeshift structure in the city of Arua, northwest of the capital Kampala. “They were playing soccer when it started raining and they were struck by lightning,” a police spokeswoman, Josephine Angucia, told DPA.
The spokesman said families began tending to the bodies of the deceased on Thursday, while funerals are due to take place that Friday.
