Temperatures to plunge again as cold snap returns
Temperatures are set to plunge again this weekend as cold air makes its way from Russia.
Although widespread frost and ice is possible, the good news is that any snow that does fall is not expected to settle for long.
Forecasters say the mild weather will continue for the rest of the week, although it will be unsettled with rain across the country.
Monday will remain grey for most with low cloud, mist and patchy fog in eastern areas.
Showers will hit most areas but will be heaviest across central, southern and eastern parts of England and Wales.
The Met Office says a low-pressure band will bring cloud and stronger winds later in the week.
It will be largely fine on Wednesday but rain in the west will move steadily northwards by Thursday, bringing a mixture of sunshine and showers.
Going into the weekend, it will be time to dig out the woollies once again as the cold air creeps in.
It is not expected to bring as much snow as the recent icy blasts that brought many parts of the country to a standstill as roads were blocked and schools forced to close.
Sky News weather presenter Jo Wheeler said: “We will see a pushback of cold air from the east which will bring widespread frosts and the potential for snow in the east.

“The rest of this week will be fairly mild and unsettled and generally wet. As we approach the weekend we will see those temperatures gradually dip and they could get as low as -2C or -3C going into Sunday and Monday.
“Any snow that does fall is not likely to remain for long.”
