The Taiwan government this Saturday confirmed evidence of the first three cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus on the island.
The Central Epidemic Command Center has said the infections have been detected in travelers from the UK, Eswatini and the US, the latter of that nationality. The other two victims are two Taiwanese.
The travelers were screened on arrival and are now subject to a mandatory two-week quarantine, Taiwan News reported.
The area has recorded approximately 16,721 cases since the crisis began, causing 848 deaths.
