The Swiss health authorities reported on Friday that the country registered the first death of a child from the coronavirus.
According to the Ministry of Health, the boy comes from the Aargau region and would have been infected abroad. Stefan Kuster, who confirmed the news at a press conference, has given no further details.
Although there have been several cases of COVID-19 and some deaths among young people in Swiss children, Kuster has indicated that fewer children get sick and are less contagious than adults.
So far, more than 30,800 people in Switzerland have tested positive for COVID-19, 1,657 people have died. The infection rate in Switzerland is between 15 and 32 cases per day.
