Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon has called on one of the members of her formation, the Scottish National Party (SNP) in the UK Parliament, to resign from her seat immediately for walking into the chamber pending the results of a coronavirus test that eventually turned out positive.
MP Margaret Ferrier admitted breaking the rules to attend the parliamentary session in London this week while she waited for her test results.
“I have just spoken to Margaret Ferrier and made my position clear that I should resign as deputy,” said Sturgeon on his Twitter account. “I do it with regret in my heart,” she added, “because she is a colleague, but her actions have been dangerous and unjustifiable.”
Sturgeon has stressed that he has no power to force an MP to step down, but has transferred his confidence that Ferrier will “do the right thing” and step down.
