A student was arrested on Thursday as a suspect in a school shooting in Rigby Township, Idaho, in which at least three people, two students and one adult were injured, according to the school district.
Steve Anderson, a sixth grader of Rigby Middle School, pulled a gun out of his backpack at the institute and started shooting in the hallway, reports CNN, as the sheriff of Jefferson County, which also owns the town, reports.
A teacher at the center was able to take the gun off him and stop the shooting and the student until the police stopped him, Anderson said at a news conference.
The injured students have been taken to a hospital where they will spend the night while the adult has already been released. The rest of the students were evacuated from the school after the event.
Authorities have not yet given a reason why the alleged student carried out the shooting, although District Attorney Mark Taylor has indicated that once the investigation is over, he will “bring charges, possibly including three attempted murders”.
The school district has decided to close all schools this Friday because of the shooting.
