Steve Bannon, former campaign manager and former political advisor to US President Donald Trump, was arrested Thursday for fraud against donors in a campaign to raise funds to build the wall with Mexico.
Federal prosecutors have accused Bannon and three others – Brian Kolfage, Andrew Badolato and Timothy Shea – of using the money they received to build the border wall.
According to the US attorney for the southern borough of New York, Bannon and the other three defendants “orchestrated a scheme to defraud hundreds of thousands of dollars from donors” of the “We Build the Wall” campaign.
They raised more than $ 25 million through an “online” crowdfunding campaign, of which Kolfage “repeatedly affirmed that they would not take a penny for their salaries.” Bannon went so far as to publicly say, “We are a voluntary organization,” the prosecutor recalled, according to NBC.
Shortly after the charges were filed, Bannon was arrested, according to the US press.
