The polling stations in Sri Lanka have already opened for the parliamentary elections that will take place this Wednesday. These elections will implement stringent security measures due to the situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
Voting started at 7:00 a.m. (local time) and continues until 5:00 p.m. so that those who are isolated from contact with someone infected with COVID-19 can exercise their voting rights.
The Sri Lankan authorities have deployed more than 15,000 health officials and health inspectors to ensure that the vote follows security measures to prevent possible contagion, the cost of which has increased to Rs 10 billion (almost Rs 46 million) for additional measures Pandemic.
The authorities have also urged Sri Lankans to vote as early as possible, as additional voting measures can delay the process, said Mahinda Deshapriya, head of the election commission.
