According to an announcement made August 18 SpaceChain successfully demonstrated the first use of blockchain hardware on the International Space Station (ISS). This amazing achievement was possible Thanks to a collaboration with the European Space Agency, which appears to have provided funding, equipment and general support for the project.
The transaction was carried out by SpaceChain’s co-founder and CTO. Jeff Garzik, The successful signing of this BTC transaction marks progress towards SpaceChain’s goal of developing a secure, open source and immutable satellite blockchain network.
To make this possible, A ground station transmitted encrypted data to the ISS, where the hardware wallet signed the transaction with the private key. SpaceChain experiments try to ensure this a permanent connection between blockchain hardware in space and related infrastructure on earth.
As Cointelegraph previously reported, SpaceChain delivered its hardware wallet technology to the ISS in late 2019 with a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
