South Korea saw a slight decrease in the number of new coronavirus cases on Friday, confirming a total of 58 positive cases, compared to 79 announced on Thursday.

According to the South Korean Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 55 of the new cases correspond to locally transmitted infections, and the total number of infections in the Asian country has increased to 11,402, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported.

In addition, all new cases in the metropolitan area of ​​the South Korean capital Seoul have been reported. The country has registered two new and significant sources of infection in the past few days, one at a logistics center in Bucheon and one associated with bars and clubs in the Itaewon district. At least 90 infections with Bucheon and 261 with Itaewon have been linked.

In addition, the South Korean health authorities have reported no further deaths this Friday, so the death toll in South Korea remains at 269.

The outbreak has prompted the South Korean government to rethink its de-escalation plans, particularly in the area mentioned above, where public facilities such as museums and convention centers are closed. The measures apply until June 14th.
