The South Korean Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Friday that 63 cases of coronavirus have been reported in the last 24 hours, the highest number in two weeks.
According to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, South Korea has already registered 12,967 cases of coronavirus, and 52 of the new cases correspond to locally transmitted infections.
In this context, the South Korean authorities have expressed concerns that the number of new cases in the country is increasing again as infections outside the Seoul metropolitan area continue to increase. In the past two months, most new cases have been discovered in and around Seoul, where almost half of the country’s population lives.
Among the local transmission cases, six were discovered in Gwangju, a city 330 kilometers from Seoul that has experienced an outbreak related to a Buddhist temple. There are already 49 confirmed infections related to these facilities.
