South Korean health officials reported 397 new cases of coronavirus in the past hours this Sunday, the highest number of infections registered since early March, and affecting 17,399.
The country has seen a sharp surge in infections in the past 10 days, with 2,600 new cases recorded, according to the Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).
A total of 309 people have died from Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus. Of the new cases, 387 were local broadcasts, according to the KCDC.
This Saturday, for the first time since the country’s first case was confirmed in January, all 17 regions measured by the KCDC, regardless of whether they are major cities or provinces, reported cases among their residents.
