South Korea registered 63 new cases of coronavirus on Friday. This is the highest number in this section in two weeks, while infections outside the Seoul metropolitan area have risen steadily, which has raised fear among authorities of a new wave of upswing in different parts of the country.
New infections are the highest number since June 20, and 52 of them are local infections. This is evident from the balance released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in South Korea (KCDC) this Friday and collected by the official South Korean news agency Yonhap.
The South Korean government has no records of deaths in the past few hours, so the death toll remains at 282, for a total of 12,967 infections and 11,759 discharges.
It is also the first time since June 18 that the number of local infections has exceeded the 50 infection threshold. Of the new infections, 12 cases were reported in the Seoul Metropolitan Region, while 16 other infections occurred in the surrounding Gyeonggi Province.
