South Korea fears an increase in population contagion following a number of Itaewon-related cases

The South Korean Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) reported twelve new cases of the new coronavirus on Thursday, but authorities have expressed concern over the increase in infections this week. connected to a nightlife district in the popular Itaewon district in Seoul.

Although the cases associated with this person visiting multiple nightclubs have not exploded massively, they have increased steadily. The Seoul authorities have detailed that to date, at least 197 of the new infections have resulted from this case since it was discovered on May 6.

With the twelve additional cases registered this Thursday, ten of which were broadcast locally, the total number of cases has increased to 11,122. The deaths were estimated at 264 after one was confirmed in the past 24 hours.

In addition to the case reported in Itaewon’s nightclubs, health officials have focused on a hospital in southern Seoul where four nurses tested positive for COVID-19.
