Six dead and nine injured in a riot in a prison in the Mexican state of Tabasco

At least six people have died in a riot at the Tabasco Social Readaptation Center in the municipality of Villahermosa, the state capital, and nine were injured, according to the Secretary of State for Security and Civil Protection.

The riot came before 5:00 p.m. local time when two groups clashed in the prison, which included National Guard agents and anti-riot personnel from the Tabasco Security Secretariat.

The security forces cordoned off the area while ambulances from the Red Cross, Civil Protection, National Institute of Social Welfare and Forensic Service entered the prison, Mexican media reported “Milenio”.

Six deaths were confirmed from the fight, while another nine injured were transferred to Gustavo Rovirosa Hospital in the same city.

State authorities have ensured that the incident remains “under control” while relatives of prisoners have arrived on the scene to find out about the deceased and injured.
