The murder of Hisham al Hashemi, an Iraqi expert on terrorist groups and especially for the Islamic State, which took place in Baghdad late Monday afternoon, caused great shock and unanimous conviction in Iraq and the academic world.
Al Hashemi was shot on a motorcycle by unknown assailants. The expert was shot several times when he was in the Zayuna district in the center of the capital, and although he was immediately taken to a hospital, nothing could be done for his life, according to local media.
The Iraqi Interior Ministry has announced the formation of a commission of inquiry to investigate the murder and “bring the perpetrators to justice so that they can get a fair sentence”. It also instructed all troops to try to locate the suspected murderers.
The Commission is headed by the Under Secretary of State for Federal Intelligence and Investigations by the Ministry, according to the statement collected by the NINA Agency, and will have members of the General Intelligence Directorate and the Crime Prevention Directorate in Baghdad.
