The Jing’an District in Shanghai is now offering blockchain-based discount vouchers.
The local media Shine reported that the district will issue the coupons with one of the WeChat mini-programs run by the Jing’an Tourism and Culture Bureau.
WeChat snippets are smaller sub-applications created in the WeChat ecosystem to offer various online services such as e-commerce, music and video streaming and translation.
The tourism office has integrated blockchain into its WeChat mini-program to adjust the number of coupons in circulation and the period of validity of each individual coupon by analyzing their use. The mini-program sends out new vouchers every day.
The value of each blockchain-based token ranges from 5 yuan ($ 0.73) to 60 yuan ($ 8.80).
Employees, students, and other residents of the district can obtain the vouchers through the WeChat mini-program. You can then redeem them for movies, stage performances, and online courses.
Users can use the coupons at locations such as Hubei Movie Theater, IV Movie Theater, Majestic Theater, and Shanghai-based online radio platform Ximalaya.
Chen Hong, director of the tourism bureau, said they are also working with Ximalaya to encourage more people to use coupons to purchase online courses and digital books as more people access the internet for entertainment during the coronavirus pandemic . .
