Several people were injured by Lebanese security forces on Thursday after a group of protesters attempted to break into the parliament building to demand the government resign over the explosions recorded in the capital, Beirut on Tuesday, leaving at least 137 dead and more than 5,000 injured.

According to the Lebanese state news agency NNA, several protesters threw stones at the officials after setting fire to barricades with wooden materials.

He added that the clashes broke out after protesters attempted to break into Nejmé Beirut Square, where parliament is located, as tensions and criticism from the authorities about what happened increased.

The causes of the explosions have yet to be confirmed, although the main hypothesis is that 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate accumulated in one of the warehouses in the port of Beirut for six years were burned due to the precarious security conditions there.
