Several people were seriously injured this Wednesday when a passenger train derailed in Scotland near the town of Stonehaven, apparently due to damage caused by heavy rains in recent days.
Scotland’s Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon has described it as an “extremely serious incident” and has only confirmed a few “serious injuries” so far. “All of my thoughts are with those involved,” he said, as reported by the BBC.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also responded via Twitter to say he is “sad about this serious incident”, to express his support for those affected and to thank the emergency services.
Many rescue workers flew to the scene of the accident, including 30 vehicles and a helicopter.
The storms that have hit the center and east of the UK region today have caused problems for rail transport.
