At least seven people have died from a tanker explosion near Santa Marta on the outskirts of Barranquilla in northern Colombia.
The Santa Marta City Police said the truck overturned for reasons that are currently unknown, resulting in fuel spillage.
“There is a rollover. Unfortunately, if several people visit the scene, the truck detonates and several people are affected. We are checking closely what is happening. Our units are already on site,” said a police spokesman.
“More than 50 people are injured. Puebloviejo is in a tragic situation,” said Mayor of nearby Puebloviejo, Fabián Obispo.
The wounded were transported in police and private vehicles for treatment in clinics in the municipalities of Ciénaga and Santa Marta.
