Authorities have ordered the closure of more than 2,100 nightclubs, such as nightclubs, clubs and bars, in the city of Seoul after dozens of infections related to the reopening of these stores in Seoul last weekend increased the well-known Itaewon area.
The administrative decree signed by Mayor Park Won Soon implies, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, the “immediate and permanent cessation of business of these companies and threatens” severe penalties “for non-compliance.
“Lack of carelessness can trigger an explosion of the contagion. We found it after Itaewon club group infections,” added Park.
This Saturday, the Korean authorities reported 18 new infections, 17 of which affected a person who had visited five stores last weekend. The number could increase, however, as at least 1,500 club admissions are registered, of which 1,300 could not be found.
