The new coronavirus pandemic originating in the Chinese city of Wuhan has left 5,218 new cases and 142 deaths in Russia in the past 24 hours. This is the highest number of fatalities in a day since the beginning of August, with 1.04 million infected people and more than 18,000 deaths, according to the latest record from the Russian center, which is responsible for the fight against the virus.
With the new data, the balance of the pandemic on Russian territory amounts to 1,041,007 infected people and 18,135 deaths. In terms of recovery, 856,348 people have managed to overcome COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, including 6,409 patients who received a medical discharge on the last day.
Most new infections were found in Moscow with 642 cases, in addition to the 164 positive infections found in the province of the Russian capital. Moscow remains the area hit hardest by the pandemic with 268,384 infections, of which 38,611 are still active, followed by the capital region with 69,664 cases, of which 15,607 are active infections.
Of the 142 deaths in the last 24 hours, 22 have died in Saint Petersburg, 12 in Moscow and the same number in Sverdlovsk Province in the Urals.
