Around 290,000 people in Russia are infected with the new corona virus, which has already caused at least 2,722 deaths. This emerges from the official balance on Monday, in which fewer than 10,000 cases per day were recorded for the first time since the beginning of the month.
According to the center that coordinates the fight against the virus, 8,926 cases have been confirmed in the last 24 hours, including around 3,500 asymptomatic cases. Russia already has 290,678 people infected, an increase of 3.2 percent compared to Sunday.
The official agency has reported fewer than 10,000 cases a day since May 1, reports the TASS news agency. Russia is the second largest infected country in the world, only behind the United States.
In the Russian case, however, the official mortality rate is significantly lower than in other countries where the pandemic has also spread, to number 17 on Johns Hopkins University’s balance sheet. Since Sunday, 91 deaths have been recorded in Russia.
